Roman Ruins

Before Jake and I left the Lehigh Valley, we got to squeeze in one more murder mystery dinner party with some friends! The first and second murder mystery dinners were so fun, we just wanted to do one more with the group!

Dave and Elissa hosted and the theme was "Roman Ruins". Andrea ended up being the perpetrator this time. Everyone had great roman costumes (Elissa was Egyptian) and the food was delicious!

A cable guy rang the doorbell while we were trying to get a group picture, so we had him snap this photo for us. He asked if we were college kids and Elissa responded by saying, "No, we are young marrieds" (like a description of a sunday school class...it was funny).

 

 

The Last Train From Paris

Jake and I dressed up on Friday night for round 2 of the murder mystery dinner party, this time at the Meeker's house. Last time we did this, we hosted the 50's themed dinner party at our house. We had so much fun the first time that the three other couples decided to purchase a different theme and host a party too! The Meeker's got The Last Train From Paris. The evening took place in June of 1940. German troops were about to enter Paris and to remain in the city under Nazi control would not be pleasant. We were all aboard the last train from Paris to southern France.


Jake's character was a fighter pilot in the British Armed Forces. My character was a well-to-do daughter of a wealthy French perfume king. We had fun dressing up!

From left to right: Noel was a military swordsman of noble bearing; Erin was a journalist for a large metropolitan US newspaper covering the war in Europe; Dave was a mysterious distinguished businessman who traveled between Berlin and Paris regularly for work; Elissa was a royal refugee driven to Paris by the advancing German troops; Andy was a gangster who made a living in the black market of Europe; and Andrea was a fashion designer and owner of a thriving high-fashion studio.

Elissa made a delicious blackberry baked brie

The drink of the evening was champagne mixed with Midori melon liqueur.

Andrea made an awesome chicken marsala dish! We also had green beans, roasted red skin potatoes, salad and creme brulee.

Wigs started coming out after dinner...haha!

"Who Done It?" Dinner Party

On Saturday, Jake and I hosted a murder mystery dinner party. My parents got us the game kit for Christmas and it was a lot of fun! There are several different versions of the game with different themes - ours was 'The Class of '54'. The evening took place in August of 1959 - we were all friends from high school hanging out at a malt shop right after our 5 year class reunion having a good time, but then we were suddenly trying to figure out which one of us committed the crime!

There were 8 characters, so we had 3 couples over to play the game. Each person was assigned a character and dressed the part (the game even includes costume suggestions for each character).  Even though Jake and I were hosting the game, it is set up so you don't know who the killer is and can play along with the guests. We all had a blast, but we definitely are not very good actors! haha!

We started the night out with appetizers and then played all 4 rounds of the game, including dinner and dessert. I love entertaining, so I had fun setting the table with my cloth napkins, preparing the pot roast and dessert, and setting up the secret clues!

  

Since it was a 50's themed party, I thought it was appropriate to serve old-fashioned cokes in glass bottles. The ones that are bottled in Mexico are made with real sugar instead of high fructose corn syrup (At least that makes it a little better for you...right?).

Dave was the rebellious tough guy, Noel was the three-sport letterman jock, Jake was the nerd who earned his social success in high school by playing pranks on school administration, and Andy was the prep that graduated from a major eastern university after high school!

And the girls...Elissa was the one that grew up on the wrong side of the tracks, Erin was the former cheerleader, I was the teenage party girl-turned house wife, and Andrea was the studious senior class president and valedictorian!

We had a tasty dinner!

I was so excited because I have had my Grandma's hot pink pleated skirt from when she was in high school hanging in my closet for a few years. I finally had an excuse to wear it!
