Trip to Colorado

Jake and I flew to Denver, CO on a last minute weekend trip in December. We have been wanting to visit Seth and Emily out there for about two years and when I found a last minute deal for plane tickets that was too good to pass up, we took it!

We flew out on a non-stop flight on a Thursday evening after work and got there in time for dinner and a low key night of hanging out. Seth still has our old school Nintendo, so he and Jake played Contra and Zelda and I, of course, played my childhood Barbie video game...

We spent a whole day in Colorado Springs. We drove to the top of Pike's Peak, visited the Garden of the Gods, and toured the US Olympic Training Center.

These two pictures were taken on our trip to the top of Pike's Peak. You can tell we weren't very far into the trip because we aren't wearing jackets and it is still warm enough for trees to grow in this area (the higher the altitude, the fewer the trees).

Hmm...what is Jake doing? :-)

A little higher up: No trees (and no guard rails!!)

The drive up was steep and the curves were sharp...I can't believe they don't have guard rails in certain spots!

It was absolutely freezing at the top of the mountain...we didn't last long before we got in the car and decided to head back down.

We toured the US Olympic Training Center, which we weren't really planning on doing, but needed to kill some time before dinner. It ended up being really fun and interesting. Several athletes live at the training center and train for their sport all day, every day.

We had fun with the interactive photo opportunities

After this, we hung out at the beautiful Broadmoor.

They had the most amazing, fully edible, gingerbread house on display.

Round loaves of bread, baguettes, icing, and chocolate bars lined the bottom of the house.
